12 Antique Farmhouse Upcycling Projects

Transforming Goodwill Finds for Your Antique Booth

Hey everyone, it’s Nicole! Today, I’m diving into another big upcycling project day. I’ve got a ton of items from recent Goodwill hauls that need some TLC before they’re ready to sell in my antique booth, Green Onion Vintage. These items will make the perfect Antique Farmhouse Upcycling Projects. Let’s jump right in!

Project 1: Glass Cloche and Stool Seat Combo

First up, I have a glass cloche that I found for just $6. I’m pairing it with an old stool seat from a yard sale. By sanding the stool seat to bring out its rustic charm and combining it with the cloche, I can create a unique piece that I estimate could sell for around $35.

Steps:

  1. Separate the glass cloche from its base.
  2. Sand the stool seat to give it a rustic, old-wood look.
  3. Combine the two pieces and secure them together.

Project 2 & 3: Painted Glass Cake Stands

Next, I have a glass cake stand I purchased for $1.50. To modernize it, I painted the inside white and added twine around the base. While I wasn’t initially thrilled with the outcome, I also decided to add a gingham pattern to the top for a more appealing look. Additionally, I painted a second cake stand in this video with painted stripes.

Steps:

  1. Paint the surface of the cake stand white.
  2. Add twine around the base for a rustic touch.
  3. Apply a gingham pattern or stripes to the top using slick stick and chalk paint.

Project 4: Terracotta Wine Cooler

Next up, this terracotta wine cooler was a bit cracked, but I saw potential in it. Instead of leaving it natural, I decided to paint it a light gray and give it a cement treatment. Finally, I added a new label using crockery stamps and clay.

Steps:

  1. Paint the terracotta pot light gray.
  2. Apply a cement treatment for texture.
  3. Create a new label with crockery stamps and clay.

Project 5: Metal Stand Makeover

Originally, I planned to paint this metal stand black, but I opted for a green shade to fit the springtime vibe and my booth’s theme. Also, this vibrant color will complement any plant or decorative item placed on it.

Steps:

  1. Clean the metal stand.
  2. Paint it green for a fresh, spring look.

Project 6: Modern Farmhouse Mailbox

I transformed an old wood mail holder by painting it white, distressing the edges, and stenciling the word “MAIL” on the front. This design creates a modern farmhouse look that is both trendy and functional.

Steps:

  1. Paint the mailbox white.
  2. Distress the edges for a vintage feel.
  3. Stencil “MAIL” on the front.

Project 7: Farmhouse Recipe Box

Next is an antique recipe box. I decided to go with a farmhouse style, painting it white and adding a crockery stamp. I used the sandbar color and white wax for a beautiful, finished look.

Steps:

  1. Paint the box white.
  2. Add a crockery stamp in sandbar color.
  3. Distress the edges lightly with sandpaper.
  4. Apply white wax for a rustic finish.

Project 8: Decorative Archway

I also found this archway piece for $6 and decided to give it a solid, bright color rather than a dry-brush technique. Adding a small wreath will make it an attractive, easy-to-sell item.

Steps:

  1. Paint the archway a solid color.
  2. Attach a small wreath for decoration.

Project 9 & 10: Vintage Photo Frames

This oval frame, which cost me just $1, is plastic but has a lot of potential. I painted it black and added a vintage camera photo to give it a stylish, antique feel. I also painted a second, smaller frame in the video.

Steps:

  1. Paint the frame black.
  2. Find a free vintage photo online.
  3. Insert photo into frame.

Project 11: Updated Filing Box

Next, I repurposed this green filing box, originally from Goodwill for $3, as a kitchen storage piece. By stenciling the word “LUNCH” on the front, it now resembles an antique lunchbox, perfect for kitchen decor.

Steps:

  1. Clean and paint the filing box.
  2. Stencil “LUNCH” on the front for a vintage look.

Project 12: Painted Picnic Basket

My final project for the day is this picnic basket, which I debated painting. In the end, I decided to paint a stripe along the bottom to match my other projects, enhancing its appeal.

Steps:

  1. Clean the basket.
  2. Paint it to match your desired color scheme.

The Real MVP: French Tip Brush

Finally, a shoutout to my French Tip Brush from Dixie Belle, which made these antique farmhouse upcycling projects so much easier. Its angled design and natural bristles were also perfect for detailed work.
